Gender Studies instills in students a democratic and critical, analytical and interrogatory sensibility. ELIGIBILITY Applicants need to have a Bachelors degree in any discipline with minimum 45% marks or equivalent grade from a recognised university (Relaxation of 5% marks for SC/ST/PwBD/D-OBC (NCL)/Defence/KM)

On successful completion of the programme a student will be able to:

• demonstrate a sound ethical, social, political and self- aware approach to the context that they are located in enabling them to make meaningful and democratic interventions.
• demonstrate a sound understanding of recent developments in feminist theory and the literature in gender and development, gender and health, women’s movements in South Asia and global developments, complexities of caste, tribe, religion, disability and race, questions of gender in the context of the ‘north east’, debates on the body and nature of masculinity, family in a changing context and research methods.
• demonstrate a thorough understanding of the Indian state and citizenship and the provisions of the Constitution of India, while also gaining a sound understanding of the nature of global challenges.
• develop sound critical skills enabling them to engage with data, statistics, policies, art and literature, performances and cinema and the digital arena with confidence and understanding.
• develop the important skill of connecting with people and creating teams and leading groups to translate the ideals of democratic citizenship into reality.
• acquire critical thinking skills- intellectual curiosity, analytical reasoning, problem-solving
• engage in reflective judgment with regard to public policy, legal pronouncements, constitutional amendments, international poliltics
• acquire effective communication skills through their study of feminist research methodology to be self-reflexive, self-aware and critical of their vantage point and privileges while engaging with the people and community that they are interacting and working with. Thus our students possess unique skills of empathy, sharing and congeniality.
• acquire leadership and teamwork skills- the experience working in groups presentations and group projects in addition to the internship situations kindly in our students a leadership potential that is based on the feminist understanding of the leader who is not distinct from the led, rather a leader who is able to draw out the best from the team that is being led.
• possess strong research and inquiry skills- the process of writing a dissertation strengthen these attributes.
• possess effective digital literacy- our students are mindful of the gendered nature of the digital world and are very proactive in critiquing it while also providing alternative ways of deploying social media. They are also adept at using and navigating the internet for research and reading activities
• acquire a heightened degree of critical self-awareness which results in the self-confidence needed to strengthen the project of democratic citizenship this enables them to value personal autonomy/self-reliance while also being flexible and open minded.
